ORIRA / IWA JI DUNUKOFIA: A TIME TO CONSOLIDATE ON PEACE, UNITY, LOVE, AND OUR HOMOGENEITY

The Transition Committee Chairman of Dunukofia LGA, Mr. Onyemaobi Augustine Nonyelum (Ancestor) on Friday 22nd September 2023 joined the traditional rulers of the six communities in Dunukofia LGA at their respective Palaces as they perform this year's "Orira" (Iwa Ji) Dunukofia.

Recall, that the LG Chairman had earlier felicitated with Ndi Dunukofia on their ongoing New Yam Festival, charging them to cease this period of celebrations to consolidate on peace, unity, and love as they are the only homogeneous Local Government Area in Nigeria.

"ORIRA / IWA JI DUNUKOFIA: A TIME TO CONSOLIDATE ON PEACE, UNITY, LOVE, AND OUR HOMOGENEITY.


"Orira JI / Iwa Ji Dunukofia (Dunukofia New Yam Festival) has been a traditional cum cultural practices that till date couldn't be influenced by foreign religious principles that have irredeemably phased out other Igbo traditional norms and values. An ancient way of ushering in a period of harvest for all the indigenous farmers of Dunukofia LGA.

"New yam festival in Dunukofia serves as a key player holding the traditional characters of Ndi Dunukofia both home and abroad and defines, unifies, projects and protects our core values. Physically, morally and otherwise, I have always expressed admiration on the level of unity exhibited by our people during and after each year’s celebration of new yam festival. Also, I've always seen the festival as an enviable, rich, and sumptuous cultural heritage which deserves to be protected with all we have, by doing that, our cultural history can never be written in minuscule.

"As I celebrate with you today, I want us to use this opportunity to go down memory lane, open our minds, and feel the positive impacts of this present administration, led by Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo on the good people of Dunukofia LGA for the past 1 year plus. 

"In as much as I wouldn't want to say much about this, but at least this administration has from start considers our own sons among its decisions making body, including Commissioner, MDs/CEOs, and other State Government portfolios who are members of the State Executive Council, from Dunukofia Extraction. We also benefit from the ongoing massive road constructions in Anambra State and of course, there are some others soon to be flagged off by Mr. Governor. 

"As we celebrate this year's new yam festival, I urge us all to cease this time to preach peace and unity among the people, be our brothers’ keepers and always pray for God’s guidance as we hope to celebrate together again next and subsequent seasons.

"Therefore, may I on behalf of my family, the patriotic sons and daughters of Okofia clan heartily felicitate with Ndi Igwe Anyi all Dunukofia communities, both home and Diaspora on this occasion of 2023 ORIRA / IWA JI holding 22nd to 24th of September. I wish you all a happy celebration.

 World Sight Day: Hon. Amaka Obi Advise Residents Of Idemili South On Eye Care. Mrs Amaka Obi(Iyom Ife-Abata) has advised people of Idemili South on eye care as they celebrates World Sight Day today.  Idemili South Council Boss, Hon. Amaka Obi said that, people should love their eyes by avoiding poor diet, abuse of drugs, alcohol and ensure they have a yearly checkup from an eye medical doctor from the age of 40.
